About Us

Taking into account the importance of the residential halls the university decided to build in its silver jubilee year i.e. in 1947 one of the very first post graduate hostel under the name Jubilee Hall.
The history of the hall is no less significant than that of sovereign India. When the rest of India was basking under the glory of its new found state of sovereignty, occasion was only befitting that the institution like Jubilee hall, which could go on to grow relentlessly to contribute towards the cause of the newborn nation, was born in intellectual environment of university of Delhi. Today with completion of more than six decades of academic brilliance, Jubilee Hall is proud to step into the exclusive club with our nation. The hall draws students from all parts of the country, thus representing a miniature India. Here students with different cultural and ethnic backgrounds live together, learn, understand and accommodate diverse views, and attitudes in the spirit of tolerance, which makes the road ahead for the idea of “Unity in Diversity”. The residents represent all the disciplines of the university, thereby making jubilee hall a perfect model of co- existence and national integration. The hall is also having foreign students, which symbolizes our attempts towards fostering international bonds.

The Golden Journey of the Hall

The hostel was first started in the barracks near science faculty Delhi University. The old building was demolished in 1986 but the memories of this famous hostel still remained alive. After the students shifted to new hostel (i.e. Present Jubilee hall) in 1956, old jubilee hall was converted into a music center. In 1979-1980, a new hostel was demanded and the old building of the hall was again utilized for residential purposes under the name Jubilee Hall extension.

In 1948 a new site in the beautiful lap of northern ridge , near Khyber pass was chosen and it was decided to construct a new building occupying the centre stage of sprawling lawns spread over 8-10 acres of land. Thus came up the existence of south block of the present building of the hostel. In 1958 towards the mall road north block, in the form of pearl into the throne, was added into the hall building to give more students an opportunity to be part of this proud legacy.

Indeed, jubilee hall became one of the first hostels of the university to be provided with all the infrastructure facilities and in-residence presence of administrative staff and the employees. Apart from this big peepal, Neem, Jamun, and other trees are growing in its premises along with sprawling lawns go to make which quite salubrious conditions for the residents to study and relax.

Moreover a big and spacious common room furnished with fairly good equipments like T.V., Music system, newspapers, magazine stands, indoor game facilities like carom board, table Tennis and chess provides opportunity to the residents for a leisurely rest. Probably jubilee hall is the only hostel of the university which has developed and maintained facilities for sports and games at a reasonably good level.

The hall is equipped with 206 rooms, one parents’ guest room, one visitor’s room, one dining Hall, one gymnasium, a canteen, an upcoming reading room and one alumnus-cum union room.

Hall as a Cultural Confluence

The hall has always been indulged in extra curriculum activities like quiz programmes, Debates, Jubilee hall lecture series, Inter and intra hostel sports meet and annual fest ‘JUBILATION’, which epitomized the true Jubilian spirit. It’s a much awaited and acknowledged event on the Delhi University campus. No wonder the Hall has been winning championship trophies in the annual hostel meets of the university every year.

Jubilee Hall also organizes an Inter –Hostel Jubilee Cricket tournament, Sri Ved Prakash memorial cricket trophy. Started in the president ship of Late shri Ved prakash in the year 1988-89.

Hall as a nursery of Elite Personalities

Jubilee hall has a unique distinction of contributing numerous personalities to the national services Like IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS and Allied services. Indeed it could be said with pride that today the jubilians are occupying position of eminence in the state and private sectors. . The list of our eminent alumni includes the name of personalities like Justice M.M. Punchhi, former honorable Chief Justice of India; Mr. J. M. Lyndoh, Former Chief Election Commissioner; Justice Jitendra Vir Gupta Former Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court; Mr. Lalit Man Singh, Former Ambassador U.S; Mr. M. K. Singh, MP Rajya Sabha; Mr. Ashok Bajpayi, Chairman Lalit Kala Academy; Dr Amit Mitra, Finance Minister, Government of West Bangal; Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hudda, CM Haryana; Prof.Krishna N. Ganesh, Director, IISER Pune,J C Bose Fellow (DST); Mr. Ranjiv Singh Dalal , DGP Haryana and many more.
